The New York State Society for Respiratory Care (NYSSRC), a chartered affiliate of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), consists of five chapters statewide. The SOUTH EASTERN CHAPTER, INC, comprising the 5 boroughs of New York City plus Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island, accounts for roughly half of the state membership.

Call for Nominations for the Annual
Jonathan Schwarz Memorial Respiratory Care Practitioner of the Year Award

 

In recognition of an individual practitioner who is Involved, Motivated and Valuable to his/her profession.

This Award shall be presented to an individual in the South Eastern Chapter of the New York State Society for Respiratory Care who is dedicated and upholds the aims and goals of both the NYSSRC-SEC and the AARC.

The individual shall demonstrate.

1. A contribution to the science, technology, ethics and art of Respiratory Care.

2. Excellence in the practice of Respiratory Care as a clinician, educator or administrator.

3. Contribution to the growth of the field as evidenced by his/her clinical practice and participation in professional activities.

SPECIFIC CRITERIA:

The nominee must:

1. Be an active member of the AARC.

2. Complete at least five years of service to the profession of Respiratory Care.

3. Demonstrate significant achievement in one more of the following area in the preceding two years.

a. professional practice (service to the community, job related activities, professional presentations, offices held in professional societies)

b. academic achievement (level of education, professional credential, scholastic record)

c. professional service to the SEC (committee work, offices held, participation in sponsored events)

NOMINATIONS:

1. Nominations may come from any active member of the AARC.

2. The nomination must be submitted to the NYSSRC-SEC Awards Committee Chairman no later than August 1, 2007.

3. Based on the nominations received, the President of the South Eastern Chapter will request that the prospective candidates submit a current curriculum vitae and the names of two additional references to the Board on or before September 1, 2008.

4. The award will be given at the annual NYSSRC-SEC Symposium September, 2008.

2008 Board Meetings

NYSSRC-SEC board meetings are open to qualified members of the chapter. All meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center (LIJ). Auditorium. Any meeting that does not conform to this schedule will have an exception posted below.  Meetings start at 4PM and the president will call the meeting to order promptly at 4:30 pm. NYSSRC members are welcome to attend and observe.

Student Sputum Bowl Competition

The Student Sputum Bowl final competition is held annually each fall during the South Eastern Chapter Symposium.   In 2007, BMCC was victorious.    

The Sputum Bowl Trophy is once again up for grabs to the next school that wins the competition for 3 successive years.
